Wheat Board Advisory Report of September 25 1978
The Wheat Board Advisory Committee met with nine members three commissioners and senior staff present. Producer deliveries total 2 454 000 tonnes versus 402 720 000 at the same date last year. Exports are up about 9.5 and transportation problems reappear including a strike at Thunder Bay and CPR CN R delays. Proceedings noted load timing issues at Dundrea Elgin elevators and calls for advance notices to prevent empty and full car backlogs. A Washington meeting with Canadian and U S farm groups was discussed but representation was limited. The board discussed deferred delivery authorization 35 million bushels for 77 78 and potential off board feed grain ideas. Public input will be accepted by letters or appointments. the Quota Review Committee seeks views, while CPR cites weather limits and CN R accepts government aid to overhaul 1000 cars. The note ends with a critical remark on a local newspaper reviewer.
