North American wildlife plan a reality
About 50 people attended the Lidcllft Marsh dedication northeast of Binscorth, with Bob Grant hosting. Representatives from Manitoba Natural Resources, the Manitoba Wildlife Federation, and RM Silver Creek offered greetings as tours and air boat rides highlighted the event. The North American Waterfowl Management Plan funds land purchases and leases to restore waterfowl habitat across Canada and the United States. Manitoba’s share totals 134 million dollars to improve 500,000 acres in 48 southwestern municipalities. The plan targets 62 million breeding ducks and an annual flyway of 100 million ducks, far above current numbers, with substantial money directed to farmers for habitat and leasing land for conservation.
