Russell Shuns Main Street Manitoba funding effort
Russell Manitoba remains among few large communities not pursuing the Main Street Manitoba program. Municipal Finance Officer Elsie Forest notes many towns have projects underway or completed, with Rossburn and Angusville among participants. The program funds two thirds of public property upgrades and one third of private business costs, up to the limit, and applications take months to prepare.

Canamax seeks partner for Manitoba potash project funding
Canamax Resources Inc seeks a mining partner to finance its Manitoba Potash Project in the Russell-Binscarth area. The project, requiring about 750 million dollars, has 200 million available from Canamax and 30 million already spent on feasibility studies and land options. The province may take up to 90 percent in the mine, with government aid and international investor searches continuing as potash prices slump. Geological work and seismic tests proceed this fall with drill tests on five farmers’ lands planned. Potential investors to be pursued in Korea, China, and India. The team remains hopeful timing will unlock financing and project viability.
