Members packed the hall for the annual gathering as By-laws on town lot sales were approved and new property owners listed. Officers were re elected with two new members added, and discussion covered hunting boat use and an insurance plan with 50 cents yearly dues. A crow magpie contest posted 3198 crows and 1126 magpies destroyed by district youths, with top prizes awarded.

Wheat Pool Members Hear Reports On Record Year
Seventy five members and wives of the Russell Co operative Elevator Association held a successful annual meeting in Memorial Hall. C Cooke presided. Seymour Stevens secretary. Manitoba Pool officials P J Brown and W Polloway attended with E Leifer reporting on the Winnipeg convention. Grain handled rose two percent and pool's share of the crop neared 50 percent. Stevens elected delegate to 1953 convention with R Setter as alternate. Brown reviewed a surplus of 28003.34 for year ending July 31 1952. 402000 bushels shipped. Polloway praised growth of the Pool movement and urged producer consumer cooperation. Directors elected: R Leiter E Leiter G Mann S Stevens. alternate R Whitmer. Thanks to Cooke for retiring from the Board. 4-H Club donation acknowledged. banquet planned for next year. Young Women’s Club served lunch.

Vancouver Obituary for Alex McDonagh Pioneer Buyer and Reeve
Word reached here of the death in Vancouver BC on November 13 of Alexander McDonagh born March 12 1861 in Lucknow Ontario. He settled in Russell conducted a butcher business fifteen years then worked in automobile and implement trades until retirement. Active in community affairs he was reeve of the municipality before its incorporation, served on town council and school board and held posts as justice of the peace returning officer and Manitoba liquor board member. A Mason United Church member and Conservative he married Skeoch in 1891 at Binscarth. Survived by his widow six daughters Mrs Carrie Richardson Mrs Ethel Hunter Mrs Hazel Calvert Mrs Jean Leech Mrs Alice Leslie Eleanor McBride of Brook Idaho and sons William and Marshall, both of Vancouver.

Rural Council Pleased With 1952 Road Work
At the RM of Russell council meeting much satisfaction was voiced over 1952 road work. Twenty four and a half miles were graded and six miles gravelled. Tax collection this fall was satisfactory, though expenses were high, and accounts totaling 75 573 41 dollars were approved for payment.

Funeral Services Held For Stewart Corley
Funeral services were held near Knox Church in Russell yesterday for Stewart Corley 75 who died suddenly at his home. Burial followed at the local cemetery. He is survived by a widow and a son daughter in law and four grandchildren. He lived in Silverton and Rabatace area.

Mr H shultz of Grandview president of the Manitoba Farmers Union spoke at the Russell local meeting in the Elks hall on Friday evening November 14. He outlined the 1952 action policy and urged stronger membership as multiple new members joined. About 40 attended and delegates to the Winnipeg convention December 8 to 10 were named: A Penonzek Gus Kleebaum R Zimmer and Ed Ziprick. Ray Spencer chaired the meeting with A O Koss as secretary.

Robert Bruce Bursary Awarded at United College
A $50 entrance bursary was presented to Lee Shaw of Russell at United College commence ment exercises on November 6 at St Stephens Broadway Church. The Robert Bruce Bursary, usually $200, is awarded annually for academic standing and ability. this year it was divided among four theology students. Lee Shaw, son of Mr and Mrs Bruce Shaw, is a first year United College student.

Hockey Club To Be Re Organized In Russell
A nominating committee led by G. W. Davidson, George Laing and Jack Thom was formed to reorganize the Russell Intermediate hockey club. They will seek broad citizen support, plan another meeting at Elks hall on Monday November 2 at 8 pm to present officer candidates, and aim to restore harmony after last season’s dissension. The team reported $175 in bank plus up to $100 held by the club for starting the new season, and a referee’s school trip to Brandon on November 22 with team representation likely.

Funeral Service for P Chuckree in Russell
Funeral services held Friday from the Greek Catholic Church in Russell for Philip Chuckree who died suddenly Tuesday morning. Rev. Paulette and Rev. Zanoslaw led the service with interment in Russell Cemetery. Chuckree, born in Ukraine November 28, 1883, came to Canada at 19, married Nellie Shewchuk in 1907, farmed near Rossburn then moved to Russell district in 1923. Survived by wife, five sons, five daughters, a brother, twenty pallbearers, and honorary pallbearers.
