Russell Honors Fallen Heroes Remembrance Day Services

Two services commemorated Remembrance Day in Russell. A school ceremony featured O Canada and God Our Help in Ages Past with solo by Miss Joan Virtue and a Grade 5 6 choral reading. Knox United Church hosted a public service with Rev. W S MacDonald addressing the congregation and a Veterans parade ending at the Cenotaph.

The Russell Chamber of Commerce will hold its November meeting Friday evening at 8. The session aims to conclude quickly to leave time for attendees to enjoy the dance afterward.

Russell School Board Minutes November 6 192X

The Russell School Board met with Trustees Fenton Adolphe Burgess Kinney Principal Foster and Secretary-Treasurer McKinnon present. Accounts totaling 11.14 were approved. Adolphe appointed to represent the board on the Russell Athletic Council. November 13 was set for winter schedule. A new piano for the auditorium was discussed and efforts made to procure a used one.

Junior Seed Clubs Hold Show And Hear Addresses

On November 13 the Junior Seed Clubs from Foxwarren Binscarth Inglis and Russell gathered in the Elk's hall at Russell for Achievement Day to display grain samples test papers and crop records judged by Percy Ford and Doug Norton. Awards went to Inglis Foxwarren and Russell with Ford urging soil conservation and continued seed improvement for 1951 1952 and beyond.

Rev J T and Mrs Gawthrop buy Cypress River home

Cypress River reports Rev J T Gawthrop and wife have purchased a home there to retire after forty years in church service. Gawthrop led Knox United last year and has a long career across Saskatchewan Manitoba and Ontario with postings in Gull Lake Kipling Piapot Kincaid Radville Broadview and more. His daughter Mrs. David Muir has served as officiating minister at Kelwood Manitoba. One son Kenneth died in a WWII air raid. another son Leslie lives in Winnipeg.

New Telephone Directory Issued by Manitoba Telephone System

Manitoba Rural districts receive a newly issued telephone directory this month. The 9 by 11 inch book enlarges previous editions and mirrors the Greater Winnipeg directory. Ads are removed from the cover and the green binding features the provincial buffalo emblem. The directory is valid until November 1951 and includes 176 alphabetic pages plus 92 classified pages, with a three column layout to aid reading and a strong emphasis on Yellow Pages usage.

R A S Annual Meeting Set for November 23

The Russell Agricultural Society holds its annual meeting next Thursday afternoon November 23 at 2:30 in the Elks hall Russell. About 200 members will receive notices to attend as reports on last year's activities including the summer fair and finances are presented. A slate of directors and suggestions for the coming year are on the agenda.

Funeral Service Held for William Wookey at Russell Cemetery

William Wookey died suddenly November 5 near Dropmore. His funeral service was held Wednesday at Braendle Funeral Home conducted by Rev. C. W. J. Salmon. Pallbearers were A. Mather J. Newell J. H. McLennan and John Jackson.
