Russell FYDE program nearly canceled after public meeting

At Major Pratt Collegiate Russell residents gathered for a public meeting to discuss the First Year Distance Education site. Charles Schobe of IUN said Russell came within a hair of losing the program, with earlier talks at the University of Manitoba and a Walker evaluation prompting a review. The meeting highlighted costs, home attendance benefits, and regional participation from Russell and nearby communities.

Clement's Honored as World’s Oldest Case IH Dealer

Harold Clement and Mert Perrin of Clement's celebrate being the oldest Case IH dealer in the world with a commemorative plaque from Case IH executives Jerry McLeod and Bob McDowell. The firm, dating to 1917, employs about 40 in peak season after merging Farm Equipment and Fertilizer divisions.

Elder Abuse Conference Draws Large Local Attendance

Senior Services hosted an Elder Abuse conference at the Yellowhead room of The Russell Inn on November 3. Val Ferguson and Joan Eliasson organized the event with expectations of twenty to thirty attendees, but eighty eight participants attended to learn signs of elder abuse, reporting steps, and available community resources. Fenny Yellen of Age and Opportunity/Elder Abuse Resource Centre in Winnipeg spoke on identification and legal aspects, with page 2 of the report continuing the coverage.

Manitoba Legislature to Open Nov 28 for Fourth Session

Premier Gary Filmon announced the fourth session of the 36th Manitoba Legislature will open Thursday November 28 with the throne speech read and debated. Bills will be introduced and second readings followed by a Christmas adjournment. The session resumes in the new year to finish business.

School division protests court ruling on Lord's Prayer
