Minimum wage rise planned for Manitoba in 2011
Manitoba announces a 50 cent increase to the minimum wage to ten dollars per hour effective October 1 2011 aligning with a broader national trend. Labour minister Jennifer Howard says the hike is part of a poverty reduction strategy and will help 22 000 Manitobans move off the tax rolls once fully implemented. Nine other jurisdictions also raise wages in 2011 with Manitoba joining those set to reach or exceed ten dollars per hour by May 2012.
