New 1987 angling rules set walleye length limits provincewide
Fisheries official Gerry Edwards says southern Manitoba will see a new catch length rule for walleye to promote spawning. At Lake of the Prairies the daily limit remains four walleye per angler but only fish under 5 cm may be kept, with larger fish released to spawn. The season runs May 9 to March 31 with a one month spring shutdown. Angling licenses cost 6 dollars for Canadians and 30 dollars for non residents. a 15 dollar special license exists. Other species have no limits and algae concerns persist near the lake.
