Manitoba RCMP with Manitoba Public Insurance ran an enhanced distracted driving campaign in April focusing on handheld device use. Officers issued 310 tickets under Section 215.1(2) and two drivers were impaired by alcohol.
May reports detail a burned field hazard near Asessippi Ski Hill, a stolen SUV recovered in Esterhazy with forensic work underway, multiple unlocked vehicle break ins on Bonney Ave, and linked thefts. Construction zone speeding fines totaled 652.50 for 83 kmh, with two others earning 469.25. A 17 year old remanded, two youths held, and a stolen blue grey truck from Churchbridge led to suspects sought. Fireworks, a dugout fire, a deactivated cell phone theft, and a stolen Polaris quad are noted. Speeder of the Week: 66 year old from Lorette at 133 kmh, ticket 482.25.
The Manitoba Cyclone Association trained 16 new Kids of Mud coaches in Russell on May 14. New coaches came from Parkland Region towns including Russell Swan River The Pas Dauphin and McCreary. Local trainers Alex Bishop Bernhard Neuhofer and Russell Rec Director Michelle Horncastle prepared for the program launching after the long weekend.
