Proposed bill to curb MPI auto theft benefits in Manitoba
Justice Minister Andrew Swan introduced Bill 31 to amend the Manitoba Public Insurance Corporation Act. Convicted auto thieves would lose MPI benefits for drivers and passengers, with extensions to flight from police, street racing, theft of a motor vehicle, and taking a vehicle without consent. Swan cites safety gains and past reforms while noting AutoPac premiums have fallen through innovations like immobilizers and theft suppression strategies.
