The Department of Agriculture’s first 1940 season report notes a mild winter with little snow followed by late March snow in southern CPR territory. Moisture improved in eastern Manitoba but delayed inter lake seeding. 70 to 100 percent of wheat sown with rust resistant varieties. Subsoil moisture is deficient and beekeeping shows keen interest.
