Manitoba school board reacts to new local schools act
Park West School Division chair Joan Clement said the Education Department announced the Strengthening Local Schools Act after months of work on a long range plan. The act bans closing any school not slated for closure before Jan 1 and requires community consensus for closures or reductions. Clement noted the surprise amid prior discussions with Minister Bjornson and officials about amalgamation and closures.
