Rail Abandonment Submission to Manitoba Railways Panel
The Branch Lines Association of Manitoba submitted to the standing committee on railways, canals and telegraph lines. Vice President Gregor Jamieson led the briefing, citing 1100 miles of applications, including 980 miles of CNR track, and outlining social and economic impacts of wholesale rail abandonment on 9000 farms, 98 towns, 17 000 residents, 190 grain elevators with 12.5 million bushel capacity and 20 million bushels moved annually. The brief urged a thorough survey by a dedicated authority to assess area rail needs and propose recommendations.
