IMC to Shut Down K1 and K2 Mines for Week

IMC will halt production at its K1 and K2 Canadian potash mines for one week ending April 1. Marshall Hamilton, IMC human resources manager, told employees the shutdown begins Saturday March 30 at 7 a.m. and lasts until 7 a.m. Sunday.

New Feeder Barn Approved for Clover Leaf Park

Killarney council approved a 5-1 vote on March 13 after a zoning hearing for Clover Leaf Park Corporation. Wayne and Kelvin Nichol proposed a 10,400-head feeder hog operation on NE 21-4-16, privately funded and to operate as a contract finisher for Dynamic Park. The complex will use four barns linked by a main corridor and sits amid three comparable facilities in the NE, NW, and SW corners of the municipality.

Oak Lake man registers heat gun as firearm

An Oak Lake body shop owner was surprised to be registered for a weapon that is actually a Black and Decker heat gun and a soldering gun. Brian Buckley admitted he filled bogus details to protest gun forms, joking about 110-volt AD. The federal filing arrived with a real registration, prompting criticism of the gun registry program.

Endangered Riding Mountain faces encroaching development

The Canadian Nature Federation labeling Riding Mountain National Park as endangered highlights threats from adjacent development and high visitor pressure. The group cites elk risks, habitat isolation, possible fencing or culling as drastic measures discussed, with Nahanni NT and other parks rising due to mining, oil and gas activity and potential spills.
