Manitoba moves to recognize Sioux Valley self governance
The Manitoba government introduced a governance act to officially recognize Sioux Valley Dakota Nation self governance. Aboriginal and Northern Affairs Minister Eric Robinson said it is the prairie provinces first of its kind. Chief Vince Tacan welcomed the measure as a historic step toward self rule for SVDN members, many of whom live on reserve near Brandon.
