Official languages controversy roils Canadian municipalities
Discussion over bilingual service delivery continues to divide leaders while the Federation of Canadian Municipalities notes unanimous support for Canada s bilingual character. The FCM offers guidelines encouraging limited minority language services where uptake is 10 percent or 5 000 people. Ontario and New Brunswick grant provincial and municipal latitude. Quebec mostly requires French but may offer English where demanded. Winnipeg has bilingual obligations. The piece also notes local notices and events alongside a $22 338 payment to A E McKenzie Seeds for a long term loan repayment.
