Acquittal in Harrow Death Case Leaves Questions
The Brandon court acquitted Gerald Vermette, a 43 year old farmer, of criminal negligence causing death in the June 27 2009 wreck that killed Jason Hargreaves a 22 year old Brandon university student. Vermette had argued his stalled truck and a harrow partly blocked the eastbound lane but was found not to have shown wanton disregard for public safety. The trial noted negligent behavior but deemed it not recklessness. remaining Highway Traffic Act charges will proceed next week.
