Surplus funds in Manitoba school budgets under debate
Park West School Division prepares to present its budget to the public on March 2 at Binscarth School with a follow up in Strathclair on March 3. The province provides a two percent funding increase while trustees discuss surpluses and prudent reserves amid calls to minimize tax hikes. Park West reports a 1.5 percent rise from 9.37 million in provincial funding and a high surplus of about 12.5 percent of revenue, defending reserves as a tool to cover unplanned costs and enrollment shifts without excessive borrowing.
