Early History of the Russell Agricultural Society
Records of the Russell Agricultural Society's origins and early growth are largely lost. Insights come from John McIntosh, an early director, about a 1683 origin meeting where W. Wlenmark was elected president and a 1883 organization plan to hold a summer fair. The first fair grounds were behind the current post office, with exhibits in a hall built by Major Boulton, and a Banner Award at the 1893 Winnipeg Exhibition presented by Sir Donald A. Smith.
