Reminiscences of Russell Mills and Early Brass Band
The article recalls Asessippi mill ownership by Henny Gill and Millwood by Mitchell and Tucknall, notes a Russell mill repurposed as a hotel by Alf Cree, and lists stores and hotels. It covers Dr Barnardo's 1887 farm training home near Russell, its staff, and impact on local farm labor. It ends with the 1889 formation of Russell's brass band, its first members, and a celebratory train arrival with instruments.
