Quiet wedding at Christ Church and local notices

A quiet wedding united Miss Anna Clee and Mr. Harry Pell at Christ Church on June 26. Earlier, Miss Edish Bryant wed Mr. William Dutton at her parents' home on June 19. Manitoba Elks Meet. War Budget Tackles Financing War

The Manitoba Elks Association held its annual convention in Russell with 90 attending. H E Sellers of the National War Finance Committee estimated Canada will need about four billion dollars this year, with one billion eight million to be raised from Canadians. Delegates approved resolutions to grant second generation Canadians the right to register and to distribute a patriotic pamphlet on naturalization and government duties. Russell Lodge won the Gad Gillam cup for community and lodge activity. Officers were elected, and a public banquet closed the event.

Carload of Salvage Rubber To Be Shipped From District

A carload of salvage rubber will be loaded and shipped to Toronto once government permission is received. About 12 tons are ready, with Inglis and Shell smouth committees contributing. They seek 200 tons but district-wide collection continues next week as government pays freight and proceeds go to the Russell War Charities Board and district Red Cross branches.

Students Publish Smart Year Book

The 1942 Scarlet and Gold year book from Russell Collegiate Department has been published. It showcases class and sport pictures along with editorials and school activities.

Advised deadline pushes early copy for next issue

The notice urges reporters and advertisers to submit all copy by 6 p.m. Monday to meet the Tuesday evening publication target. It notes July 1st Dominion holiday creates a Wednesday timing issue for this week’s Banner and asks for cooperation from correspondents and advertisers.

Students receive advertiser support enabling extended activities. A surplus of books exists and those interested should contact a Year Book staff member. Copies are on sale at 25 cents each.

Each day features a distinct theme with parades, dances, meals, demonstrations, and open camps to showcase Army life and thank service members. Hembroft Yeo Wedding at Christ Church Roblin

The Roblin ceremony for Vivian Jean Yeo and Lieutenant H L C Hembroff took place at 3 PM on June 20 with Rev. Nash officiating. Guests included families from Russell and Brandon, and out of town visitors. The reception followed at the bride's home, with both families sharing travel and attire details.
