Conservatives broaden EI Compassionate Care Benefit reach
Justice Minister Vic Toews announced expansions to Canada's EI Compassionate Care Benefit effective immediately. The widened definition allows care for siblings and other relatives, as well as gravely ill individuals, enabling eligible workers to take time off without income loss or job risk. Human Resources Minister Diane Finley framed the change as reflecting caregiving realities and supporting families nationwide.
