Vital Statistics Amendments Unveiled By Minister Muriel Smith
Community Services Minister Muriel Smith announced amendments to the Vital Statistics Act. The changes, mainly administrative, fine tune the act revising major 1983 revisions. New provisions include father’s particulars on birth certificates for support cases, a right for husbands to be listed as natural father after artificial insemination, and a process for registering hyphenated or combined surnames with limited consent exceptions. The amendments touch adoptees records, research access, and confidentiality safeguards.
