The Russell Library celebrated 25 years at its current location and Canada's 125th birthday with a Come and Go tea on June 6. About 100 attendees enjoyed tea coffee and perused books and memorabilia as Rural Development Minister Len Derkach awarded an operating grant cheque for 17,500.00 to the library.
Brian White, the Member of Parliament for Dauphin-Swan River, announced he will not seek re election in the next federal race. He said his family wishes to move on and credited many meetings across the rural riding for a valuable experience. His three riding offices will stay open until the next election and staff will continue serving residents until then.
A lengthy June 8 board meeting reviewed staffing at Major Pratt with a projected 13.5 student increase for 1982 8. Minutes of May 19 were approved and May accounts totaling 53072898 were paid. Board approved church services during the Rossburn Harvest Festival and a student exchange with Moscow College. Requests included base equipment for Major Pratt, staffing changes at Rossburn Collegiate, resignations and a contract termination, and timing adjustments for Rossburn teachers.
Manitoba will implement waste disposal regulations on June 15 to curb burning at disposal sites, protect groundwater, and require approvals for new landfills. Deb DesRivieres notes some municipalities are proactive while others lag, promising one year permits for all sites as officials assess ongoing compliance.
The 1992 Russell Bailey King's Sportsman's Dinner features Calgary Flames centre Theoren Fleury, Pat Falloon, and Jeff Odgers as head table speakers. Also attending are Derek Tibbatts, Mark Wotton, Shawn Yakimishyn from junior clubs, with Kevin McGowan as emcee. Tickets $35. proceeds benefit minor hockey.
Rural Municipality of Dauphin council denied Par-a-tone Corporation a conditional use permit for two 3,000 hog barns six miles east and two miles south of Dauphin after a month of opposition led by Inkster and other residents. The decision follows a June 9 meeting where the proposal was rejected.
