Pelly Trail ED defends councillors on hog barn regulation
In a letter responding to a June 5 2001 Russell Banner editorial residents and five local governments note ILO regulations cover all livestock and that councils have pursued extensive due diligence. They cite open houses tours meetings with experts and the Hamiota sow barn example showing economic benefits and wider regional impact. They condemn the lack of coverage by the local newspaper and urge continued public education and scrutiny.

Lightning strikes home in Plumas tale of damage and injuries
A front page Neepawa story details Beth Madill freed from bed after a lightning strike hit a TV tower and traveled into their home in Plumas. Her husband Tom was unharmed but their VCR, outlets and appliances were damaged while a hole appeared in the house. Nearby RCMP led a large Checkstop operation with thousands of vehicles checked and several offenders detained. The note then highlights Isabel Patterson of Cypress River knitting for Winnipeg Children's Hospital and long time public servant Jack Ives of Tisdale. A Headingley Headliner asks about the butcher bird, the loggerhead shrike, now in decline as conservationists study its habits.
