Selection Committee to Interview Applicants in Russell

The Selection Committee of the Dominion Provincial War Emergency Training Program will be in Russel next Wednesday June 17 to interview applicants for training in provincial vocational training schools. Eligible enrollees are boys and men over 16 not subject to compulsory military training or engaged in agriculture. Men 20 to 30 discharged from or rejected for active service are also eligible with preference in selection. Under this program men will be trained for wartime needs in approved vocations.

Committee Offers War Industry Training in Russell

A selection committee invites applicants for 12 weeks of training in machine shop practice sheet metal work and welding. Courses provide subsistence allowances of seven dollars weekly for single and thirteen dollars for married trainees. Interviews are at 8:30 pm on the 17th in Russell Council Chambers.

Three New Teachers For 1942 43 Term

Changes in Russell school teaching staff for the 1942 43 term include Miss Doris M Fraser of Brandon joining the Collegiate to teach English and History replacing Henry Rosner. In the public school Miss Bertha Wood of Deloraine takes Grades 7 and 8 and Miss Mary Coover of Foxwarren takes Grades 5 and 6 from Miss Cotton. Miss Alice Davis gives up teaching temporarily for a business course. Inspectors report the school building is safe and no alarm is warranted for attending children.

Scrap metal sale nets 272.18 for local charity

Secretary C J Maher of the Salvage Committee received a cheque for 272.18 dollars for a recent load of scrap metal. The payment exceeded expectations and the funds will be turned over to the Russell War Charities Board Fund, rewarding those who contributed to the effort.

Inglis hosts a district W I convention with delegates from north to south. Mrs Yeo presided. welcome by Mrs Armstrong and response by Mrs McDutty. Sessions covered V Bundles Red Cross books for camps and youth participation. Miss McKay urged young people into Institutes. 60 percent undernourished and 91 percent needing dental care noted. Evening program featured solos, talks on price control, a Roblin Grade play, and a sugar rationing update expected next week.
