Fifty Golfers Compete In Curlers Tournament at Russell
The Russell Curl tournament drew fifty golfers in perfect weather with the course in fine shape. Al Gogal of Roblin led medal play at 78, just one stroke ahead of local Don Sanderson. First flight winner was Bill Keast of Roblin, with A Skoikan of Virden as runner-up. Second flight prizes went to Bill Walls and Eric Payne of Russell.

Division Teachers Hold Meeting Here

A local health unit led a two day food handlers course at Birtle United Church on May 31 and June 1. One hundred fifteen participants attended from Birtle Foxwarren Roblin Rossburn Shoal Lake Oakburn and Russell. Attendees from Russell included Sister M Virgilia Sister M Bona Venture Miss Donelda Ross.

Annual Meeting of Children's Aid Soc. 1964 Proceedings
Delegates from Southwestern Manitoba districts gathered at Brandon College for the 67th annual meeting of the Children's Aid Society. Treasurer J Pook reported expenditures of $945.38. The year served 2006 children and 250 unmarried mothers and children. 56 children placed for adoption and 280 foster homes shared in care. The meeting theme Ticket to Tomorrow featured a New World Theatre contact play about a teenage boy’s life. E L Simpson moderated a panel on the play’s issues, with questions from the audience. Peter Luba was elected president. officers included JM Simpson and S A Dickens. Directors named Vern Warrian, Russell, and Agnes Snider from their districts.

Track Meet Week Brings District Zone and Provincial Meets
Adverse weather compacted district zone and provincial field and track meets into one week. Pelly Trail winners advanced from Tuesday at Major Pratt Collegiate to Virden on Thursday and to Winnipeg at Sargent Park on Saturday for the provincial championships. Girls from Belly Trail district earned three firsts and a hind, while boys claimed one second and three thirds, with multiple standout performances from Inglis Elphinstone Rossburn and Binscarth athletes.
