Plow Match Set for June 13 At Emil Ross Farm
The Russo Agricultural Society and the Chamber of Commerce announce the second annual plow event next Wednesday June 13 at Emil Ross farm 2 1/2 miles north of town on Highway 83. Entries close Saturday at 9 pm at the Ag. Rep's office. Three competitions plus a novelty event with prize money 20 15 10 5 for open and 15 10 5 3 for 4 H. Trophies include UGG trophy for champion and Pool Elevator trophy for best 4 H. A machinery display and refreshment booth will be on site with a silver collection for the Prairie provincial match on June 27.

Pioneer Banker and Cattle Buyer Dies in Oregon
Rannie received word last week of the death of his uncle William Scarth of Silverton Oregon on Sunday May 27 at 93. An old timer of Russell and Binscarth districts he was a cattle buyer and a partner in Dudley Scarth Lees private bankers in Birtle and Russell. He also farmed and was a grain buyer in Binscarth. Survivors include his wife and two sons in Oregon and one sister Mrs Belt Rideau and son in Edmonton. The Scarths left the district for the United States in 1901.

Suspensions Balance Reinstated Drivers In Manitoba
In May 485 drivers were suspended and 442 had driving privileges returned. Total suspensions rose to 6837 with 85 charged with driving while intoxicated. Thirty seven convicted in accidents, 33 hit and run cases, 16 under suspension, 52 for bad driving records, seven due to physical disability, seven for mental disability, 179 for faulty insurance. Raiden of Geese Westpas accounted for 223 suspensions, 138 rural Manitoba drivers suspended.

On Sunday May 76th Wayne Frederick son of C P O and Mrs F Hodgkins was christened on his parents wedding anniversary aboard H M C S St Therese. The ship’s bell served as the font while Squadron Chaplain Rev W Lloyd Dalton officiated. Paternal grandparents Mr and Mrs C Hodgkins of Russell Manitoba were godparents with maternal grandmother Mrs M Ratcliffe present. A reception followed aboard with family members and local officers among the guests.

Buyers From Distance Pay Fair Prices at Dunn Sale

A Togo buyer paid the top bull price of 670 dollars while a Ste. Rose bidder topped the heifer at 825 dollars.
