Shellmouth Rally Preview and Narrow Horse Escape

Bill Barry escaped serious injury after a near neck break on the racecourse when a slack wire at the winning post struck him. Football practice is progressing well with strong turnout. A Shellmouth versus Dropmore match is planned for next Saturday at 7 pm on Shellmouth ground. W A members attended Deanery meetings in Russell. The Mission Band hosted its Annual Garden Party in Mrs Hoopes garden raising over $7.00.

Silver for U.F.M. Meeting Scheduled at Schoolhouse

The Silver for U.F.M. holds a regular meeting at the school house on Monday June 8 at 7 pm. Members who bought seed oats locally are urged to attend along with those shipping hogs or cattle. A gathering in W McFarlane’s barn follows the Silverton picnic Thursday night.

Last Sunday services under the W M S were led by Mrs. J Crerar with reports from Mrs. Earle Keating and Mrs N A Robertson. A duet by L and M Carley followed. The Silverton meeting closed with prayer by Mrs D C Stewart and money raised went to the W M S. Strathford picnic set for June 11 and Silverton for June 3 with games and ings. Regular Sunday services next week include Sunday School at 2 15 p m and sermon at 3 p m.

Inglis WMS Met at Armstrong Home May 20

Inglis W M S met at Mrs. Harry Armstrong’s home on Wednesday May 20 with eight members and two visitors present. The meeting opened with prayer and scripture reading. Mrs. Grant read a paper on Who the women of the Orient expect the Christian women. The paper urged women to be an example to far lands and missionaries. The afternoon was spent making blocks for a quilt. The July meeting will finish the quilt. Mrs. A Buie was appointed delegate to the Presbyterial in Strathclair May 28. The June meeting will be at Mrs. Crawford’s. We hope for larger attendance.

Death of Walter McKay End of an Era in Russell District

Walter McKay 71, born in Zorra Ontario, died after long illness at his Russell residence. He moved west in 1881, lived in Silver Creek then Russell, served 39 years as Secretary Treasurer for Silver Creek Municipality, a highly esteemed local figure. Funeral Monday at his residence, burial in Russell cemetery. He leaves widow, four daughters, four sons, two sisters, two brothers, and several relatives.
