Manitoba Tightens Manure Rules For Livestock Operations
New guidelines lower the animal unit threshold from 400 to 300 AU and require manure management plans for any new operations over 300 AU by next spring. Winter spreading is banned. Existing 300 AU+ facilities must register plans by February 2004 and cease winter spreading by November 2010. Legislation also requires third party plan preparers to register with the Manitoba Institute of Agrologists and mandates certification for commercial manure applicators.
