Sergeant Navigator George Hodgkins received his wings on July 16 at the RCAF graduation ceremony at No. Navigator School Winnipeg. After a short leave he departed east. The Navy League Fair Day raised 87.35 dollars, sponsored by the Eastern Star under Mrs. W. Needham. Ottawa’s House of Commons adjourned to January 27, 1944 after six months of estimates. Readers urged to sign letters for publication. Russell area saw variable rain. several nearby districts reported heavy rain Sunday night. Stanley J. and Rodney E. Budz of Rossburn joined the air force and train at No. 2 Manning Depot Brandon. Billy Symbol and Bob Page won the last heat of the 2.27 pace at Saltcoats with 2:17 time. Canadian No. 3 ration books will be issued August 25 to 28. books will last eight months. Subscribers over a month in arrears will be removed next week.

A quiet wedding occurred Saturday July 17 at 2 pm at the home of Mr and Mrs W McBean 93 Sherburn Street Winnipeg. Helen Agnes Mackie became the bride of Harold W Alexander second son of Mr and Mrs Bert Alexander Minnedosa. Rev P T Pilkey officiated and attendees included Miss Mary Murlock of Inglis as bridesmaid and Sgt Albert Doer of Arnprior as best man. A buffet luncheon followed. the couple will reside in Minnedosa.
