Transportation savings drive gains for western farmers
Ken Ritter, chair of the Canadian Wheat Board, notes that collective selling through the CWB boosts bargaining power with railways and grain companies. Transportation savings totaled 36.32 million for the first three quarters of 2003-04, with past years recording 40.9 and 33.8 million. The system ties performance to incentives and penalties and allocates rail cars by delivery balance and tendering.
