DArcy Bakers Death and War Reverie
A reminiscence from Major Boulton on 1885 Fish Creek frontlines recalls DArcy Baker, a scout wounded in battle. As shots ring out at night, he asks for his rifle and horse, rises with vigor despite mortal injury, and dies near a distant western hill as the plains endure. The verse reflects loyalty, duty, and the fallen rider’s memory.
