The Threshermen's Reunion near Winnipeg runs July 2 to 28 with a new rodeo added to the four day event. Officials rearranged grounds for corrals and parade, with extra bleacher space to ensure an uninterrupted view of steam tractors, threshing, and log saw work.

Fifty Years in Canada Fifty Years in Canada

A feature on Russell Gillespie known as Smithy, marking his 50 years in Canada and 62 in the blacksmith trade. Born in Fife Scotland, he arrived in Manitoba in July, worked briefly in Winnipeg, then took over the Russell blacksmith shop in 1917. Still active daily, he ranks among the town’s longest serving tradesmen, second only to W. W. Wilson.

Week of varied weather disrupts dry spell across district

The district saw sunshine and sudden downpours with hail and light rains, plus strong winds that damaged trees and hydro lines. Official CPR rainfall reached 0.76 inches, then pushed above an inch after Saturday and Monday, with a wall of dirt from the west. Damaging effects included broken trees, cottages at Silver Beach, and hail north of Inglish and around Angusville.

The music pupils of Miss Louselle Leifer performed in recital on Thursday June 28 at 8 o'clock in Knox United Church recreation room. Binscarth 4H Club Tops Rally Honors

Binscarth 4H Club led the Roblin-Russell event with the Russell Banner trophy for the parade. Allerton of Binscarth won a T. Eaton Co. gold watch for girls, Wayne Digby of Assiniboine Calf Club claimed the boys’ watch. Twenty clubs competed in 17 educational displays and morning judging.

Plumbarama Field Day Promotes Farm Water Systems

Manitoba field days during late July and early August showcase plumbing fixtures and water system benefits. Displays by Manitoba Hydro and health and agriculture departments include free water testing for farmers. Plumbarama in this area takes place July 31 at T. B. Greaves farm near Russell from 1:30 to 5 p.m. with multiple vendor tents and a trailer classroom used by the provincial agriculture department.

Plumbing showcases highlight aging cultural rep at trailer

Short courses are shown with examples and displays of pipe connections and distinction system layouts in the trailer. An aging cultural representative will answer questions on plumbing systems. Plumbaramas is a joint project of provincial health and agriculture departments and Manitoba Hydro.
