Moberly report on Russell development near ready
A municipal development report by Terry Moberly of RSM and A Ltd aims to outline phase two of Enterprise Manitoba growth. It recommends 38,000 sq ft of department store space, 13,028 sq ft groceries, 9,900 sq ft restaurants in an integrated pedestrian mall plus a self-serve liquor store. The report, to be presented to the Development Committee and Russell Town Council week of July 18, follows June 26 permits for two new grocery outlets. Mayor Langford said council acted before the report, while committee members seek clarity at the July 9 meeting.

Municipal tax sharing funds allocated for 1961
Manitoba cities towns villages and municipalities will receive statutory payments in 1961 estimated at 25.1 million dollars through the Provincial Municipal Tax-Sharing program. The funds are to be distributed to municipalities under the program.

Fire Fighters victorious at Grafton
Firefighters from Russell competed at the Grafton event sponsored by the Grafton Volunteer Fire Department with Team 1 securing first in water soccer and thirds in hoselaying and ladder climbing to lead by one point in a nine to eleven point three way tie for second. Team 11 earned fourth in water soccer and added a banner to the department’s collection as the event drew eight teen teams from Manitoba and North Dakota.

Ray St. Germaine to perform at Russell Centennial Homecoming
Popular country singer Ray St. Germaine will headline the Memorial Arena cabaret during Russell Centennial Homecoming July 23 to 26. Tickets go on sale at registration day and at the door. the weekend also features a Service Men’s Dinner July 23 and a Main Street parade July 26. Finance Minister Brian Ransom announced Manitoba sold a $150 million 10 year bond issue in the United States on June 23 at par with a 14.75 percent coupon.
