The Bowspiel ended amid ideal weather and spirited curling. Six visiting rinks faced six locals in the Blue Ribbon, won by locals by two points. Thom rink led Kinseell and set a high standard with 19 to 0 score, while a later stretch saw long scoreless ends.
The council adopts the minutes, approves rink payments, and considers licenses and refunds. It rejects a $100.90 donation to the Salvation Army in favor of local canvassing, appoints H Clee as assessor for 1925 at $35, and grants a 10.9 percent commission to Gorman's Ltd. on a $100 gas producer engine sale. A refund is authorized for 22 acres of tax sale purchase with 19 percent interest, and the town guarantees hotel expenses for W Henderson and family until further notice.
A Saturday gathering under society auspices discussed federal aid for horse breeding. Breeders of Clydesdales and Percherons showed equal interest. committees formed to plan actions. A Clydesdale stallion service group was tentatively created. A Queens Hotel meeting set for January 31 at 2 p.m. All interested farmers urged to attend. Percheron demand seen as weak for a club this year.
The Boys' squad traveled to Foxwarren Saturday but could not repeat their prior win. Foxwarren scored four times, ending the game 8 to 3 in their favor. Senior school grades and names listed include Firh Swen X Tres Go 9t yeriruds Fuchanan Will Marty Nennedy VU Arnie PRutar.
Judge Maulson presided as cases heard. Boulton v Stolarchuk and Gec Paulenko awarded $500 to plaintiff for note on grain and acres. Halwas v Holunga Iftode awarded $580 to plaintiff for sale of horses. Kricauld referred to County Court to present statement. Robt Newman appeal from police magistrate Callin upheld with costs. Balinink appeal from police magistrate McLen nan adjourned. Garnishees and judgments disposed of.

In the English speaking world the 400th anniversary of William Tindale was commemorated last Sunday at the local Union Church. F C Middleton delivered an evening sermon on Tindale’s Bible translation making the Bible accessible to common people. Rev Mr Ayre spoke about the Livie Society’s work distributing Bibles, illustrated with slides.
The Harrowby Dramatic Society presented Civil Service in the school house last Friday. Despite poor road conditions the house was packed. The two hour show featured strong performances, music by Mr and Mrs D McCrae, and sketches by Mr W Hoeman. Supper followed with dancing. The group may stage another event this season. assembling a larger venue remains a concern. The Ladies' Aid Society plans a February concert and bazaar with details pending.
Councillor J H Farthing attends the Mani Hortoms Aso satio convention at the Tort Garry Hotel Winnipeg January 27 29. Mrs J C Archer and Mrs J H Farthing represent Millwood branch as delegates of the Woman's Auxiliary to the Rupert's Land diocese, with plans to transfer Deanery to Brandon Diocese. A school teacher W Morris and three pupils view a solar eclipse from a hill despite cold 2 below zero.
Shoal Lake hosted District 3 board and council for review of a budget campaign with higher allocations for towns including Newdale 50 Birtle 80 Basswood 40 Rossburn 50 Solsgirth 15 Binsworth 15 Foxwarren 15. Rev W A Cunningham Shoal Lake treasurer to handle campus funds. Doug Stewart Birtle and Tom Smellie reported on sessions. Father and Son week to be promoted district wide. Athletic meet planned again at Little this year with Doug Stewart Ralph Miller Milton Curle preparing details.
Monday evening January 19 60 guests gathered at Mr and Mrs S Tibbatts home for a miscellaneous shower honoring Miss Myrile Gunn. Master Harvey Tibbatts presented gifts in a decorated basket and the group sang For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow before music and dancing. Lunch at 1130 featured chocolates and cigars enjoyed by the prospective bridegroom as guests departed about 2 am.
Fire at the C N R Round House destroyed an oil warehouse causing about 3500 dollars in damage. The loss included two new Bowser tanks and the fire’s cause remains a mystery. The building was steam heated and two workers were reportedly careless with matches and cigarettes. Fire engine could not stop the blaze once it had headway.
A joint installation for Bose Loave No. 41 I.O.C.F. and Crystal Rebekah Lodge No. 49 was held in the local lodge room with many members present. District officers A W Simplfon and I Brendle led the ceremony assisted by Amy Callin and Jean Gray. new officers for Oddfellows and Rebekahs were announced along with presenting jewels to retiring workers N R Park and Mrs J McIntyre. A lunch followed and the evening closed cordially.
James M McConnell recovering after serious illness and Ivy Giesman ill with hopes of speedy recovery. Wind and snow made roads slick in places as some young people test tent skis. Friends welcome Miss Parker back at her home.
A report references her former position as a teacher at the Craigie School, marking a past assignment in the local educational community.
The monthly W A meeting will be held at Mrs Hooper's home on Thursday February 5. Members are cordial invited to attend.
The Endcliffe Women's Institute offers a school night on Friday evening January 3. Admission for gentlemen is 50 cents. Ladies are asked to bring baskets.
The Girls' Club enjoyed an evening at the rink on Tuesday and returned to Miss Ruby Setter s home for refreshments. Church officials and congregation members host a social Friday in honor of Mr and Mrs N R Park in the church basement, inviting all friends. Sunday services next Sabbath are 11 AM for morning worship with a sermon Spiritual Detachment and 7 PM with a sermon The story of the apple and the fall of man. Miss Edna Reed will return Monday evening February 7, with seats reservable and no extra booking charge.
A large Sunday turnout heard Rev F C Middleton of Russell speak on the crown of creation man in the image of God. He plans to return next Sunday at 3 PM if weather allows. Inglis Union Church WMS held its January meeting at Mrs Roy Breckenridge’s home with a paper by Mrs A Buie on the first chapter of The planting of the faith. The next meeting will be at Mrs C Briggs’s home.
The Angusville Senior C.G.L.T. hosts a carnival in the rink on Friday. Public invited to enjoy a lively evening with games and fun events for all ages.
The Parish of Christ Church held its annual meeting on Tuesday evening. Officers elected for the year include Church warden G. B. Cartwright and vestrymen P. H. Nelson A. Astbury A. M. Doctor Walter Henderson a Palmer School graduate will be in Russell on February 7 and 8 for consultations. He has a wide practice treating many ailments and offers confident care for individual cases.
The Department of Customs and Excise states individuals may possess apparatus for brewing for personal use only, with no sale. They must notify the nearest Ottawa customs collector. After proper notice and lawful conduct, no further responsibility rests under the act, challenging prior penalties for possessing still parts under the Inland Revenue Act.
Several Manitoba towns schedule dances and bonspiels for February with music by local orchestras. Jock Anderson of Angusville wins a second prize at Brandon Bonspiel while Rollie Shipley heads to Rossburn Bonspiel with teammates H McKean G Slack and C Clee. A St Valentine's Dance is planned at Rostie's Hall with Crystal Rebekah Lodge No 49, tickets 75 cents.
