Russell Reunion Draws 205 In Winnipeg Saturday

More than two hundred Russell residents and descendants gathered at Osatellows Temple on Kennedy Street for the annual Russell Reunion in Winnipeg. The event featured dancing and performances led by Ken Shipley and Cameron McLennan, with prizes awarded to longtime couples and oldest attendees. Notables from Russell and area attended, sharing memories and best wishes from Mayors and friends alike.

Rural Russell Farmers to Receive $30,000 Assistance

About $30,000 will be paid to farmers in Russell Rural Municipality under the Prairie Farmers' Assistance Act. Payments depend on crop yield with $250 per acre for sub four bushels and $1.50 per acre for four to eight bushels. Eligible blocks include multiple townships and ranges as reported to Geo. A. Calf Club demonstrates rope halters at March meeting

Russell Calf Club drew a good crowd for its March gathering with 18 members and five visitors. A review of Some tips on Selecting Fitting and Showing Beet Steers was given as members learned to make rope halters from a ten foot length of rope. Jimmy Kieper was chosen to perform a piano solo at the March 23 concert. The next meeting is set for April 12 at Mr L Margetts home.

A rediscovered 1909 Russell Telephone Co directory lists roughly 200 names with several firms sharing numbers. It covers service hours from 7 am to 11 pm daily except Sundays, tolls of 25 cents after hours, and 25 cents for Binscarth calls. Special Course For Service Policemen At Camp Shilo

Soldiers from many parts of Canada completed a ten weeks course at Camp Shilo Manitoba in service police methods and techniques. The Provost Corps School trained them in service law traffic control police procedure investigations unarmed combat and report writing with potential eligibility for specialist trades pay. Russell Council Sets 1 401 000 Assessment For 1955 56

Gravel rights and municipal lands were discussed and road work paid at set hourly rates. Polio vaccine cards will be distributed to school districts with guidance.
