Glen Orsek, a Grade Eleven student, was chosen as one of sixteen Manitoba delegates for the Forum for Young Canadians. He will spend the week of March 18 in Ottawa observing the House of Commons and meeting MPs. Notices of Enumeration cards should reach voters for the February 16 federal general election. Eligible citizens who have not received a card must contact the Elections Canada Officer in their electoral district. Names can be added during the preliminary revision in urban districts January 25 to February 4. To vote, you must be 18, a Canadian citizen, and resident of Canada. Ransom outlines master plan for Manitoba parks
Natural Resources Minister Brian Ransom outlined a Whiteshell master plan push, pledging park lands totaling about 2.589 million acres be managed for Manitobans' recreational needs. He stressed careful planning to balance today’s benefits with future access, with each park to receive a plan detailing location, development type and size. Work on plans for several parks will begin this year, following a 1979-80 consultant-based strategy.

Unemployment rate steady in province in 1979
Labour minister Ken MacMaster reports unemployment held at 4.7 to 4.9 percent in December 1979 with a 13 point drop from December 1978. Pelly Trail School Board Hires Teachers and Reassigns Bus Service
At the January 14 1980 board meeting nine trustees approved minutes from December and accepted resignations and bus route changes. They hired Cameron MacDonald as interim bus driver, two teachers Dennis Kaskin and Thomas Crew, and planned an April 1 1980 bus route transfer. The board also signed a five year appraisal contract with Sunalta, renewed membership with the Manitoba Association of School Trustees, and budgeted insurance and dental program notes. The next meeting is January 28 1980.

Local autonomy expands school bus use in divisions
Education Minister Keith Cosens announced new Public Schools Act changes empowering divisions to send buses on extracurricular trips outside Manitoba without prior permission. Most trips involve athletic events to North Dakota Saskatchewan and neighboring regions.
