Russell area lives marked by celebrations and trials in 2000
The year featured the 2000 Homecoming celebrations with a standing room only concert, a grand parade, and the Peace Park opening. Community volunteers led by Joan and Eldon Montgomery and Joan Robert shaped a busy year of events as Tornado warnings, floods, and severe weather impacted Russell and nearby areas. Notable changes included new Economic Development Officer Marcia Rowat, court cases, hospital and drinking water infrastructure plans, highway accidents, and the opening of a standalone RCMP detachment in February 2001.
