Two more soldier boys arrived home this week Ptes Cammidge and W Clee. Mr T Simms reports his son has reached England from a German prison camp. Rev H Feir recovers from influenza illness in Virden. The district curling matches take place at Silverton with Angusville and Silverton entries. A new creamery addition is under construction by Smalle Bros Ltd W Hembroff as contractor. Jin drew a crowd at the Rijou with "Tazan of the Apes" showing Saturday.
A special meeting is planned at the 100 F Hall on Tuesday January 14 at 8 pm for destination and inflation. Obituary notices report the death of Mervyn Richardson son of FG Richardson of Rochedale from pneumonia after influenza, with funeral at Tummell cemetery led by Rev Archibald. Major W G Barker of Warrenton Manitoba is decorated again by King Albert of Belgium, holding multiple honors and a valuable aeroplane gifted for Italian front service. A Russell Army and Navy veterans branch forms with officers named P H Nelson as president and others. The community notes the need for a club room for returning soldiers. Funeral services for Geo McRostie were held at Minniska cemetery. he was educated at Russell High School and studied electrical engineering in Winnipeg before illness.
Christ Church notes announce a January unity octave from Jan 18 to Jan 25 with daily prayer meetings at 8 o clock in the Rectory. The church lists services at Silverton and a Sunday School and Evensong with sermon as part of its weekly schedule.
The influenza epidemic causes many deaths across Manitoba districts. The Girls Club plans a home cooking sale with 15 cent tea on Saturday January 18 and items for sale next week.
The Bob Wilson Company will give a concert in the Presbyterian church on Saturday January 25 at 6 pm. Admission 75 cents for adults and 2 cents for children.
School notes show Mrs Tean Tronston leading Grades HT and HL at Axgusville. Carpenters work to improve warmth as attendance rises after a three day vacation. Prizes fund offered for top exam standings in Grades VIIII to XI to boost diligence.
ENDOCLIFFE The Red Cross Society met at Mrs Lorimer's home and planned a Jumble Auction at the school on the 17th. Three pounds seven shillings and sixpence was raised for tea. The annual meeting will be February 6th at 7 32 pm with thanks extended to members who sent Xmas boxes to G Stevenson and others.
A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. F Mullin on Tuesday December 24 in Fossell.
Mervyn Richardson died at Mochdale on Sunday January 2 aged 2 years 5 months. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Richardson. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the family.
Cara of Thanks Mr Walker and family express gratitude for sympathy after their bereavement. Mr McRostie and family likewise thank friends for kindness shown following their loss.
