Manitoba farm income rises while crops fall in 1980

Manitoba’s 1980 farm cash receipts rose 15 percent to 1.164 billion dollars driven by higher wheat deliveries and gains in rye, flax, cattle, and dairy sales. Wheat output dropped seven percent despite higher plantings due to poor weather, while barley and silage crops increased. Flax and rape seed declined sharply, hay and corn saw mixed changes, signaling a weaker outlook for 1981 unless crops rebound.
