Seed Sector Review targets farmer seed rights in Canada
Proposal to curb farmer seed saving re use and exchange under the Seed Sector Review seeks longer Plant Breeders Rights and new royalties. It urges linking premiums to Certified seed and allowing seed companies to collect royalties on farm saved seed. The push, backed by major seed interests, could criminalize age old practices and shift control to transnational firms. Joyce Neufeld Waldeck, Sask. appeals for public action and meetings nationwide.
