Minniska School Education Week Reflections And Tales

Education Week observed at Minniska school with adults and children attending. The program included singing, contests, dialogues and shop exercises, with papers on community and school and memories from early days. Stories recalled barefoot races, a Christmas tree with wool decorations and old photos of first pupils. A silver collection supported the Mission Band.

Town Council Approves Payments and Housing By law

The town council held a regular meeting last Thursday approving payment accounts for Electric Light and town services. Mayor Hembruff and Councillors Mather and Langford were present. A special February meeting authorized carrying out terms of a Dominion provincial public aid agreement and By law No 301 discharging certain mortises under the housing scheme was read and passed.

Farewell Church Members Bid Cartwrights Safe Voyage

Members of Christ Church hosted a farewell gathering at the Boultons to honor Mr and Mrs Cartwright before they move to Victoria B C. speakers praised their church service and citizenship while gifts, song and Auld Lang Syne marked the sendoff as Russell bids goodbye after 22 years.

Funeral Services Held at Gladstone for Chester Page

Funeral services were held in Gladstone on Tuesday February 8 for Chester Page eldest son of Dr and Mrs K Page Russell. Rev Lowery of Gladstone United Church preached a solemn sermon. Interment followed at Gladstone Cemetery with pallbearers Ivan and Clarence Sheridan Roper Galloway and W Footeher. Page died at Brandon Hospital February 4 after an illness of seventeen years. He is survived by his parents one brother Bob of Silverton and two sisters teaching in Canora Saskatchewan and Betty at home.

Dunns Celebrate 25th Wedding Anniversary at Home

Minniska Air and Mrs Joa Dunn hosted friends on Saturday February 12 for the twenty fifth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Dunn. The event included greetings from G McLeod and a social evening of games, songs, and a luncheon. Beta Emily Dunn presented a gift in honor of the silver anniversary.

School Concert Delights Large Local Audience

A large Thursday evening crowd enjoyed the school concert in McRoatie's hall as part of Education Week. Directors Miss June Hughes and Eunice Vinnell led one act plays with LV. Curlers Return From Spiels With Several Prizes

Russell curlers at Roblin and Yorkton bonspiels earned multiple prizes. Ledingham rink won two fourth prizes. Frank Clement’s Binsearth team took third in the Grand Challenge and fourth in the Brunner event before being ousted by Stewart and Langer. Russell entries at Winnipeg bonspiel gradually exit but show strong performance.

Oxwarren Curlers Win at Ladies Bonspiel

The women's competition on the first Wednesday drew three Foxwarren, two Binpossibly Verduns, two locals and five club rinks. Grand Challenge winner Hastings Foxwarren and Mrs McLean of Binscarth took top honors, with Miss Lewarton Foxwarren and Miss L Leifer Russell earning Consolation. A banquet followed for visiting rinks and a program featured Mrs Peterson Joy Hughes and others.

The Inglis Curling Club begins its annual bonspiel next Monday with a 3 PM first draw. Entries must reach secretary W. G. Brady by 1 PM for the draw. The club aims for strong prizes and a dance Wednesday night for visiting curlers.
