A Sock Shower is planned for Saturday February 7 at Mrs Swindel's home to raise money and acquire socks shirts and pyjamas. The report notes low interest and declining Red Cross supplies at London and Paris centers and urges more contributions noting recent receipts and prisoner aid parcels.
At Shellmouth the annual meeting of St Cuthbert's elected churchwardens Messrs Ridgway and Jackson and vestrymen Messrs Pierpoint Drake Goodbun Wise and Garnett. Mr Jackson chosen Secy Treas. A biweekly Holy Communion service begins Feb 13 at 8 pm with warming arranged. A Feb 15 meeting at Mrs Gerrard's hosts Miss Millidge WA. A Presbyterian service Feb 11 at 3 30 pm titled Christs finished work.
The Manitoba Red Cross Society Supply Station shipped the largest carload of supplies on December 23, aided by Shellmouth Red Cross Society. Secretary Treasurer Godfrey H If Jackson received a National Relief Committee pamphlet with front line needs and clothing lists. A Red Cross Tea is planned at Mrs Alex Roberts on February 15 with a village hall program and school drills. refreshments at halftime.
The Asessippi Red Cross Society met at Mrs Gillie’s home for a miscellaneous shower despite the cold. Members attended and more than eight dollars was raised. A further miscellaneous shower and social evening are planned at Mrs T McLennan on February 14, St Valentine’s Day.
The Methodist Church held anniversary services led by Rev. Salem Bland DD of Wesley College. He preached on The rediscovered Christ and urged a national Canadian church and government, plus a new social order, calling for come-outers to live by faith.
Local items report on soldier leave and furloughs for Canadian troops, a fatal gasoline explosion in Tumbell, church and choir plans, a quiet wedding, a funeral to Silverton, and the Winnipeg bonspiel opening. Public notices urge Red Cross support and a January waste material collection with a second shipment planned.
