The Russell Horticultural Society reelected officers for 1936 at the December 16 meeting led by Hon. President Mrs A G P Smellie and President F L Skinner. Directors include J W Bell and D E Doulton among others. a concert and dance was announced for December 16 in the community hall with tickets at 1c for participants. The WL hosted guest J W Bradley in Winnipeg. local residents were noted for visits and postings, including Beryl McLennan and Nell Mervink. The Novelty Bonspiel results listed prize winners for two events with teams led by Thos Jackson and W Hancock among others.

Dec 10 church club concert in the Hall featured recitations by Eileen Patterson Elizabeth Busch a chorus by High School Girls and a pageant Young Lochin read by B Hooper with cast including M Patterson Gina Busch Wilma Wishart Alice Mess Patterson Murray Garnett Bruce Davidson and W Crane. Binscarth Fat Stock Show and Sale notable event
The second Binscarth Fat Stock Show drew 240 cattle with most in fine condition though some feeder stock dulled overall aims. Grand Champion steer owned by Widdicombe of Foxwarren sold to T. Eaton Co. for 20c per lb. reserve champion bought by Hudson Bay Co. for 10c. Prices for class winners ranged 7 to 13.5c per lb. An evening banquet featured speeches by officials and judges.

Dorothy Maud Cope Matheson wife of John P Matheson of Kenville died December 11 at her sister R Vincent’s Winnipeg home after a lingering illness. Born November 19 1891 in Forest Hill London England, she moved to Russell in 1895 and educated at London Jerry School Russell High School. She taught in Manitoba towns and married 12 1914 at Christ Church Russell to farmer John P Matheson. Survived by husband four children Lorne Dougall Edna Emily. parents G A Cope and relatives. funeral held in Kenville.
