Status of Shellmouth reservoir reviewed
Shellmouth reservoir levels fall slowly since late summer with elevation about 1400.2 feet and outflow at 250 cubic feet per second. A soil moisture survey in November 1997 shows topsoil drier than in recent years. Winter precipitation has been negligible, resulting in little snow cover. Forecasted low inflow next spring leads the Shellmouth Reservoir Liaison Committee to endorse a winter release reduction to 200 cfs effective December 9, 1997. This aims to keep reservoir higher through winter for next summer’s water supply, with ongoing reviews of basin conditions and inflow forecasts.
