Manitoba RCMP Holiday Checkstop shows impaired driving remains high
The Manitoba RCMP launched the 2017 Holiday Checkstop on December 1 and after the first weekend 21 people were charged with impaired driving and six tiered suspensions issued. Insp. Moreland urged planning a safe ride home and warned officers will stay out over the holidays. Last year 122 impaired driving offenses and 60 suspensions occurred during the holiday period. Through 2017, 76 people have died and 166 seriously injured in crashes, about 30 percent involving impaired driving. One more death is too many, authorities say.
