Farmers Urged to Switch to Manitou Wheat
Farmers are advised to switch to Manitou wheat for next year's crop. Manitou outyielded Selkirk by five to 10 bushels last summer due to leaf rust resistance, though seed was thin on many farms. Manitou should grade higher, and though it matures two to three days later, rust sped Selkirk’s maturity and reduced yield. Prices are expected to rise as supply dwindles, says Al Martin of Agriculture.
