Ten years ago in 1927 a United Grain Growers elevator at Dropmore burned down along with 15000 bushels of rain, 170 sacks of flour, and a car of grain. On December 1, Miss Ivy Sparling married Mr. Brest Kingdon at Mr. H Bligh’s home. Memorial services were held in the United Church for TL G Swindell, an early Russell Elks lodge member.

Mrs E Schwalm Pioneer Buried in Local District
Mrs Macha Schwalm pioneer resident of the Radcliffe district died last Wednesday evening after a short illness at age 82. Funeral at her home Friday with Rev B Walace officiating. interment at Russell cemetery. She was born in Fergus Ontario in 1865 and married Ernest Schwalm in 1888. Survived by husband four sons Bert Lloyd Wesley John and a daughter Ellie Champen who reside in Star City Endcliffe Wolverine and Suetph Ontario. Also survived by several daughters in law and nieces including Ida Butler in Toronto Rebecca Coleman in Woodstock and Mary Goodman in Oshawa. A cousin Mrs William Preston lives at Isabella Manitoba.

Old Timer Seeks News About Last Big Fire
The Banner received a letter from Colonel Geo A J Hendry asking for copies describing the fire of Thursday Nov 18. He notes relief that the blaze destroyed none of his 1900 handiwork and sends regards to the boys. Hendry once worked at Dolg's Hardware in the 1900s, later ran a hardware business in Omemee Ontario, and keeps Russell close while visiting.
