Provincial government will assist the town council in hard surfacing four blocks on Russell's Main Street and in grading and gravelling the approaches from the highway at both the south and north ends.

Manitoba and Alberta creameries swept butter prizes at the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto. Russell Creamery captured two second prizes and one third, while St Lazare Creamery led for butter made in June.
Mr and Mrs Clift Shepherd marked their fiftieth wedding anniversary the first golden wedding in Angusville district. Relatives visited for tea and a church program ended with a trilight lamp gift. Family from Brandon Pilot Mound and Birtle joined, tracing roots to Scotland and Ontario after long westward service. The couple married at Boyle August 14 187? and lived mainly in Boyle and Angusville, active in church and community.
Community notes show the Wi group meeting at Mrs. B Richardson home on September 6. Quilts completed by Ladies Ald for the manse. Visits by Miss Staples and Miss McCrindle. McCrindle sang at Sunday service. Several locals take up new posts and reminisce about Union Bank staff during the war. School staff listed as reopening after vacation with names for primary and secondary grades.
Rossburn welcomes Hon T A Croray visiting town and district last week. Winnipeg couple Mr. and Mrs D King stayed with relatives. H Warnock returned from Brandon hospital and is glad to be home. Winni ag residents Mr and Mrs T Coppin spent time with relatives. Mrs J Blernes marks her 80th birthday on Wednesday August 22. Betty Kantman of Shoal Lake visited with Be Paikomt. W McPadyen began highway work at Austin on Saturday. Mr and Mrs H Biernes host relatives from Langenburg. Wm Mo celebrates his 79th birthday.
Endcliffe and A Gay of Portage la Prairie visited L A Schwalm last Sunday. Miss Ella Stewart is in Winnipeg with her mother after an operation and friends wish her speedy recovery. Gene Woodard returns from Fort Erie for a visit. Elaine Schwatm and Audrey Moyes visit, Moyes guests at Mrs. John Rea. Dora Pitts returns from McKim. School opened with Evelyn Church of Killarney in attendance.
A well attended Horticul tural Show in Doig's showroom proved rich in displays despite some weaker exhibits. Knox United Ladies' Aid South Circle hosted booths and judged with Tom Hodgson of Dropmore Hardy Plant Nursery, while Mayor H B Hembroft opened the event and awarded prizes to Mrs Jas De La Inglis and R G Ledingham among others.
The Russell Hockey Club launches a member drive with district partners canvassed by a committee. Membership offers a bushel of wheat or more as support, aiming to revive a first class hockey club in town after last season’s efforts and new uniforms donated by local firms.
Al Brandon Show displays from Russell Angusville and Anguaville districts dominated prizes with seventeen firsts and numerous seconds and thirds. Mrs. Mike Luba of Angusville led with eleven firsts and five seconds in the rage table. J Chuchmuch and N Pushika of Angusville won nine and three seconds. George Knight of Russell claimed top tomato prize, while R G Ledingham earned four firsts and several others in flowers. Mrs W Ledingham won first in the potted plant class.
Miss Helen Walker of Nebraska is visiting with her cousins Mr and Mrs O M Laycock. The news notes the cordial family gathering and extended stay with relatives in the area.

Twin Brac congratulates Mr and Mrs George Mentenko on the birth of a daughter Carolyne Rubel who visited at home for a month and has returned to work in Melville Sask. Miss Mary Arnott and her sister Jean returned home after visiting local friends. Threshing is general this week with fields of wheat good though coarse grains poor.
Wasagaming Board of Trade discussed marking a route from Melita through Pipestone Virden Birtie Russell Roblin Beniton to Swan River as Highway 104. No action taken as boards of trade were asked to give opinions. The plan aims to create a scenic loop for American tourists, with positive regional benefits cited by supporters.
